Dibrugarh University

The university is situated in the Indian state of Assam. It was setup in the year 1965 under Dibrugarh University Act 1965’s provisions, which were acted out by the Assam Legislative Assembly. The university features restricted residential facilities and it is serving as a teaching and affiliating university. Specifically, Dibrugarh University is located at Rajabheta which is about 5 kilometers to Dibrugarh’s town in the south part. The campus is laid out in 203 hectares of land in which 74.3 hectares of it is used as a tea plantation.

Campus

The campus is about 10 kilometers away from the area of Lepetkata. The university itself is linked by railways, roads, waterways and air transport. The National Highway No. 37 is passing through the university’s campus. Overall, its territorial jurisdiction covers Upper Assam’s 7 districts, which are Dibrugarh, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Sibsagar and Tinsukia. Dibrugarh University has about 140 affiliated colleges.

Dibrugarh University is located in a district which is known for the immense mineral resources it offers. Some of these mineral resources include natural gas, coal and oil. The district is also known for its several tea plantations and flora and fauna. Accreditation

Dibrugarh University is accredited with a B-Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation. It is the Association of the Indian University and Association of Commonwealth Universities’ member. All the degrees being awarded by the university are not just recognized by every university in India, but also abroad. Some changes were made in the university’s academic system during the 2009-2011 academic sessions. Its system was changed from a semester system to a choice-based credit system.

The Academics

  • Center for Computer Studies (CCS)

CCS originated in a Computer Centre which was established in the year 1976. The centre was then teaching a 6-month certificate course about computer programming. By 2004, it was upgraded as the Center for Computer Studies. It was also then when the center began its Post-Graduate Diploma in Computer Application. By July of 2004, Dibrugarh University introduced Bachelor of Computer Application followed by Master of Computer Applications and B. SC IT in January and July of 2007.

The center features 3 computer laboratories and its own library. The CCS is associated to Computer Society of India and All India Council for Technical Education. CCS is an accredited center as well for the Department of Electronics and Accreditation of Computer Classes and Indira Gandhi Open University.

Students are admitted to the university through the state level CAT. The candidates are interviewed followed by counseling to admission, but there are other programs that require passing the 10-2 level either with physics or mathematics at some entry mark in total.

  • Institute of Engineering and Technology

Dibrugarh University Institute of Engineering and Technology was established in 2009 to serve as a constituent institute as well as a central aspect of the university. Its establishment was made with All India Council for Technical Education and New Delhi’s due approval along with all necessary permissions granted by the Assam State government.

The institute’s first session started in August of 2009 which accepted a 60 capacity in every discipline to the B. Tech. degree. These disciplines included Petroleum Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The institute is situated inside the Dibrugarh University’s campus and is offering excellent facilities and infrastructure. Currently, DUIET administration is headed by Professor M.C. Bora who also serves as the director of the institute.

  • Centre for Management Studies

CMSDU is serving as the university’s management school, which commenced on the third of February, 2003. The first batch only held MBA students, but it was soon added with the three-year BBA and three-year MBA Part Time in 2004, which also started in the same year. By 2006, CMSDU launched the one-year Post Graduate Diploma in Tourism Management Program. It is also now running the Ph.D. Program.

  • Centre for Juridical Studies

Dibrugarh University’s Center for Juridical Studies is offering undergraduate legal education. It was founded in 2006 and now runs the following courses:

  • BA LL.B(H)

The center decided to add the LL.M course beginning the 2012-2013 academic year and it specializes in administrative law.

Significant Events Celebrated by the Dibrugarh University Annually

AUXESIS is one of the significant events celebrated by the university every year. It is the university’s annual celebration of techno cultural management festival. The name of the festival suggests of amplification and growth. It aims to become the biggest techno cultural management festival within the North-Eastern part of India. The university’s Dibrugarh University Institute of Engineering and Technology is the one heading and presenting the festival. The celebration of the festival is aligned with the continuous and fast paced changing of the world. The festival’s motto is “Imagine, Innovate, Create.”

There are several objectives made for AUXESIS and these include promoting and cultivating the spirit of competiveness through organizing contemporary and quality competitions. It aims to showcase budding technocrats’ talents in various institutes in the country. It aims to increase social bondage with the society through taking several initiatives as well as promoting themes meant for social causes. The university strives to organize different workshops to enable real-time working experience. AEXESIS is meant to organize industrial meetings while letting the student community know about what it takes to be part of and work in the industry and inspiring them with the pioneer’s stories. It aims to organize internship programs in partnership with the country’s leading companies as well as those abroad.

AEXESIS involves several events which are categorized into several groups, including technical, Robosoccer, Management, creativity, Adroit Ve, symposium, cultural, workshops and more. In each of these categories, there are different activities that are organized for students to take part in.
